National Earth Day is April 22nd, but in the Tri-Cities, Washington we celebrate it for an entire month with educational activities, tours, talks, crafts, projects, and special events!
In addition to events and activities, Earth Month is a great time to try out some new personal habits that are beneficial to the environment. Commit to 30 days of a positive change, and see what happens! What will you do this Earth Month? Here are some ideas to get you started:
Recycle. Check out the Community Guide for information on how and where to recycle in the Tri-Cities.
Attend an Earth Month activity. Find events and activities throughout the month of April (and the entire year!) on the Earth Month Calendar.
Reduce the amount of garbage you put out this month. Can you get by for four weeks on one week's worth of garbage? Take the One Can A Month Challenge!
Participate in Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a unique opportunity for you to become more sustainable and do something positive for the environment. Join the world’s largest grassroots environmental movement by switching off your lights for 1 hour on March 23rd!
Kids Activities: Check out our Kids Video Contest for a chance to show how you're green and win prizes!
High school students design and build small electric cars as a class/school project and compete against other regional schools. This is not a race per say but more of an endurance event. The object is to travel the longest distance on a single battery charge in a given time period, track layout is designed to prevent unsafe speeds.
The SUN returns to the Tri-Cities! REI and Earth Day trail work at Badger Mountain. A great video of "wildlife" and volunteer work. By the Friends of Badger Mountain.
Tell us how you are “conserving energy for the future” during Earth Month and earn cash prizes! Share in writing or through video what you or your friends are doing at home or school to help the environment. Cash prizes are awarded to individual or group categories based on grade levels.
